minibar by José Andrés - Washington, D.C.

When the family reunited in D.C. last year, we had the opportunity to dine at minibar by José Andrés.

Minibar describes itself as a “study in avant-garde cooking where each bite is designed to thrill the senses by pushing the limits of what we have come to expect - and what is possible from food.” With two Michelin-stars in its pocket, we highly recommend reserving your experience well in advance. Typically, minibar visitors dine together at their communal table (chef’s counter) surrounding the kitchen and watch as the food as being prepared. We opted for Jose’s table, a private dining experience adjacent to the main area, which offers more experimental courses and more unique wine pairings.

Honey & Wax, welcome drinks served in bee’s wax!

Hibiscus Crackling

Blini and Osetra Caviar

Hokkaido Uni and Toast

We were also enticed to visit Barmini by José Andrés, a cocktail lab right next door. Our waiter kindly offered us a table and smoothly transitioned us over to finish up our last few courses there. They offer both classic and innovative cocktails in their incredibly thick menu!

Although it has taken me 2.5 years to write this post (wow!), this was one of those meals where our family still talks about til this day. From the way we got our reservations very last minute, being spoon-fed one of our courses, the cotton candy birthday cake, the many many drinks, and these lego chefs that came in our final chocolate treat, it was one heck of a meal. Thanks to the Minibar staff for taking such great care of us. We hope to be back again!
